With outstanding physicians and nurses, Women’s & Children’s Hospital has the expertise to care for and manage situations that may arise before, during, and after your pregnancy and childbirth. Because we have specialized in treating women and children for over 20 years, there is no better atmosphere you can choose to bring your new bundle of joy into the world. Our maternity area is uniquely designed for your comfort and our caring and competent nursing staff is always available to provide support to our new parents. Should complications arise, you can be assured that you are in one of the premier facilities in Louisiana for critical care of you and your newborn.
Beyond our newborn nursery and full range of routine and high-risk obstetrical care, Women’s & Children’s Hospital has the largest private Level III Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Acadiana and one of only eight in the state. Our dedicated children’s emergency department and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit also support our commitment to the comprehensive care of infants and children.
Women’s & Children’s Hospital offers a maternity area that has been uniquely designed to meet the needs of our obstetrical patients. An experienced and caring nursing staff provides support to all of our patients. The maternity area includes:
- Spacious Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) suites, in a home-like setting.
- Advanced technologies hidden away in areas convenient to the nursing/physician staff, and a comprehensive fetal monitoring system allowing for continual monitoring by nursing personnel.
- A cesarean surgery suite is available in the unit for emergency deliveries.
- Dedicated antenatal rooms.
- Antenatal/Postpartum Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the care of high-risk expectant mothers.
- 45-bed well-baby nursery to assist the newborn in the transition process from the womb to the “outside” world.
- Certified lactation consultants available for consultation for all new moms.
The maternity area at Women’s & Children’s Hospital has been designed with your needs in mind. We’ve thought of all the details to ensure you the most comfortable setting for this special time. Our experienced and caring nursing staff is available to assist and guide all of our new parents.
Your comfort during labor is important to us. Labor pain or discomfort varies from woman to woman and may differ with each pregnancy. You may require little or no pain medication; however, many patients request specific types of analgesia and anesthesia to relieve the pain of childbirth. Your obstetrician should discuss the pain relief options available to you during labor, delivery, and cesarean birth (if required). Every person has a different tolerance to pain, so you should not feel a sense of failure if you request anesthesia or we suggest medication for pain relief.
